5 ways to extend the life of your car and we are giving you 40% off to do it this week!!

Regularly changing your engine oil is one of the single most important factors in maintaining the overall health of your car. As you drive, heat breaks down engine oil and reduces the effectiveness of this important lubricant. Your engine oil is your Infiniti’s lifeline, and if not regularly changed, it can cause increased friction that will prematurely age your engine’s components, resulting in expensive car repairs down the road. Take advantage of Orlando Infiniti’s oil change coupons to ensure your vehicle lives the long, healthy life it deserves.

Irv Gordon owns a 1966 Volvo P1800 with more than 2.8 million miles on the odometer. He holds the Guinness World Record for the most miles driven by a single owner in a noncommercial vehicle. The car still has the original engine (although it has been preventatively rebuilt twice), transmission and radio.

The secret to his car’s longevity? Gordon has always changed the oil and fluids — and performed other maintenance — according to the recommendations in the owner’s manual.

So how do you keep your car in the pink? Whether you’re aiming for a couple more years or a couple hundred thousand miles, the advice is the same.

1. Read the owner’s manual. According to CarMD.com, slightly more than half of people who have owned or leased a car follow a regular maintenance program. Stick to the manufacturer’s recommendations on oil changes (forget the old 3,000-mile rule and go by your book), as well as other regular maintenance. And getting checkups at regular intervals can help spot problems that could imperil your car’s overall health.

2. Use online forums. You want to learn about potential problems before they happen so that you can prevent them — or fix them immediately. Jeff Cuje, of Sag Harbor, N.Y., plans to be buried in his 1986 Mercedes-Benz SL, so he’s taking pains to make it last. His best advice is to find an owners’ forum online and “get on the wavelength of what the problems are as your car gets older,” he says.
Sports cars and classic vehicles have enthusiastic online followings, but you’ll also find lots of sites that cover daily drivers.

3. Become friends with your dealership. Knowing one of the trusting Service Consultants at Orlando Infiniti is key to keeping up with repairs you need.

4. Don’t ignore small problems. Cuje pays close attention not only to his vehicle’s noises but also to its warning lights and even cosmetic things, like a piece of rubber trim that’s loose. Ignoring a problem only allows it to get worse, he says, and parts for aging vehicles only get harder to find.

5. Give your car some love. Wash it, wax it and vacuum it. Treat the exterior and the interior with XZilon, and lubricate plastic and rubber parts. Doing these things protects both the paint and the interior from aging prematurely. Also consider having your car detailed, which typically includes steam cleaning the carpet, shampooing the upholstery, buffing out scratches and sometimes even removing small dents. The cost is usually less than $300. The better your car looks, the more you’ll want to take care of it.

Chris-Craft Builds An Infiniti V8 Powered Mahogany Speedboat

Infiniti‘s brawny 5.6 liter V8 proves to not only motivate land yachts but actual maritime yachts as well. Students at the Tennessee Technical Center-Nashville and Nashville State Community College have removed the titanic power plant from a donor Infiniti QX56 to ready it for maritime duty in an iconic 1962 Chris-Craft “Holiday” mahogany speedboat.

The 400-hp engine has been sent to Westbrook, Maine, where the engine bell housing was modified to be compatible with a ZF/Hurth marine transmission. Next, a shop in Alabama puts the Infiniti engine through a program called “marination, ” involving custom water-cooled exhaust manifolds and the adaptation of a closed cooling system. Then, the big V8 will be taken back to the Infiniti engine facility in Decherd, Tennessee so it could get tested on a dynamometer to assure that its performance numbers are still up to factory specifications. Finally, the engine will await for its final installation into the Chris-Craft’s hull.

In the past, Chris-Craft boats adopted engines including a 431-cubic inch Lincoln marine engine and a pair of 440-cubic inch Chrysler Hemi marine V8s. However, George “Dodo” Brockman, owner of Freeport Boat Outlet, and the director of the Infiniti boat project says, “The use of the powerful Infiniti QX56 V8 is fitting with the history of the particular craft. The Infiniti V8 is actually lighter than all of the previous powerplants and won’t require any special bracing or hull modifications to fit into the original engine bay.”

In line with its handcrafted heritage, the 1962 Chris-Craft “Holiday” is currently lying upside down in Freeport Maine ready to undergo a painstaking restoration process involving more than 600 board feet of high grade sustainably harvested mahogany to cover the framework, hull, transom, and deck. 15 coats of special marine varnish will be applied to the craft over a period of a month.

Brockman continued, “Before the future Infiniti lake cruiser can return to the water, we’ve had to tear it down to virtually nothing and start building it back up with fresh wood… Ultimately, it looks like we’ll have to replace nearly 85 percent of the original wood, one piece at a time, due to age and rot.” Brockman adds, “When the 20-foot Chris-Craft Holiday model was introduced in 1962, it was said to be one of the best performing Chris-Craft hulls ever produced. It cornered well, was easy to come on plane and was often used in nationally sanctioned water skiing events for just those reasons. We can’t wait to see how this classic design performs with the new engine.”

When the mahogany speedboat is complete, a custom boat trailer to match a 2012 Infiniti QX56 will also be built.

Car buffs will get a preview of the new model at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, prior to its global debut at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. Few details are as yet available, but Infiniti says the the new JX will “push the boundaries of what a luxury crossover can be,” whatever that means. Expect dramatic-looking exterior styling with an elegantly cast interior, the requisite seating flexibility and a plethora of high-tech features that should include everything in the automaker’s playbook and then some.

Infiniti to sign off on hatchback model’s design in January

Infiniti is hard at work engineering a luxury hatchback for 2014, and it appears that the Japanese automaker is close to picking a final design. Dutch site Autoweek reports that there are three designs on the table, and one will be chosen in January. That likely means that we won’t see the production hatch any time soon, but a fall showing in Paris or Los Angeles is a possibility.

The January time frame doesn’t leave a lot of time for engineering Etherea-based hatch, but keep in mind that the compact Infiniti will be based on the front-drive G25 could be in the works.

HOME RUN DONE!

Approximately 60,000 spectators turned out in Milton Keynes last Saturday to see Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel and seven-times GP winner Mark Webber drive their Red Bull Racing cars on the city’s streets. The duo were joined by Team Principal Christian Horner, who had just returned from the FIA Awards in India with Mark and Seb, and Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey.

As the team celebrated its double World Champion success, they were joined by David Coulthard, who drove a NASCAR, Red Bull stunt rider Chris Pfeiffer and F1 presenter Jake Humphrey. Starting at 1230hrs and concluding at 1500hrs, the Red Bull Racing Home Run event was arranged to say thank you to Red Bull Racing’s staff and their families and the local community.

After the event Mark Webber commented: “It was something special to drive the car in Milton Keynes today in front of all the fans. The location was close to the factory and I live pretty locally too, so it was nice to give something back to the community. I know some of the roundabouts on the course from driving my road car, so it was something different to drive them in an F1 car! It was a nice atmosphere, the sun was shining and it was good for everyone to get close to the cars. It’s a great thing that Red Bull has done to say thank you to the fans.”

Sebastian Vettel added: “It’s great to be here in Milton Keynes which is where the cars are built and everyone from the factory works. It’s nice to say thank you and to see all the fans from the area. It was good fun; we did some donuts and enjoyed ourselves out there. Thanks to all the fans that came today, we wanted to put on a great show, so I hope they enjoyed it. It’s a great way to finish the season.”

Christian Horner said: “To run an F1 car through the middle of Milton Keynes was fantastic, so many of our workforce are local and it’s great to see so many fans here. It’s flattering to have so many people turn out to celebrate what we have achieved. Without the fans, there’s no Formula One and no Red Bull, so it’s good to give something back and celebrate our double World Championship like this. I would like to say a huge thank you to Milton Keynes Council for what they have done for us. Closing the middle of the city on one if their busiest shopping days is highly appreciated, so a huge thank you to them for all their efforts.”

Sebastian Vettel’s 186-mph Infiniti FX special

Sneak peek at The Vettel Infiniti FX!

“What Are You Driving?”

When you’re the reigning F1 world champion – and well on your way to a repeat performance – you should be able to get your hands on any car you want. And in Sebastian Vettel‘s case, that’s the Infiniti FX.

In fact, the young German already owns one and drives it back home in Germany in between grands prix and Infiniti promotional events. But he’s about to get a version catered more to his tastes. And considering his proven taste for speed, that’s bound to translate to some big performance figures.

Of course, Infiniti isn’t telling us much in the way of details, preferring instead to tease us incrementally with a video, a solitary picture and now four more as the vehicle’s unveiling in Frankfurt approaches. What it is telling us is that the FX Sebastian Vettel edition is based on the top-spec FX50S Premium and features modifications to the engine, suspension and body, and should be capable of speeds in excess of 300 km/h (186 mph).

We’ll evidently have to wait a little longer for further details.
